I grew up with a sister who had severe cognitive and physical disabilities. This is conjunction with my 20+ years teaching experience with literally hundreds of students with special needs has made me an expert in adapting music for students with disabilities. I would love to share with you what I have learned.
As a special education teacher, I am impressed and appreciative of Rhonda's ability to adapt music learning for students with a wide range of disabilities. Rhonda has an exceptional talent for identifying access points for students and customizing their music learning to emphasize their personal strengths.
Rhonda has successfully integrated music learning for students with sensory differences, autism, ADHD, and a variety of other neurodifferences by using a multi-modal, empathic approach. She develops a trust-based relationship with students that is based on mutual respect, and the students respond positively to her.
I have seen many instances when a student moved from being avoidant of music education, to demonstrating great excitement when they see Music on their daily schedule. Additionally, Rhonda collaborates effectively with other educators, staff, and families to optimize inclusive participation for all students. She is outstanding.
